Fast Start Fuels FSU Blowout Over Boston College

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc. & Nolebra Kai recap Friday’s 45-7 victory over Boston College.

The Noles hosted a rare weekday home game in which both the offense and fan base showed up early. Dalvin Cook had a quiet 100 yard rushing game and Auden Tate had his first 100 yard receiving game. Senior night was capped by Sean Maguire coming in to throw 2 TD passes.

The defense dominated a limited Eagles’ offense. The key to their success was holding BC to 96 yards on 35 rushing attempts.

We also pose the question: Is Steve Addazio a suitable replacement for Rick Trickett?

Putting The Clemson Loss In Perspective

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc & Nolebra Kai recap the Noles 37-34 loss to Clemson.

Dalvin Cook scored 4 touchdowns, Deondre Francois’ toughness was once again on display and Nyqwan Murray had a coming out party but when it mattered most the offensive line cracked under pressure and prevented the offense from scoring a game tying field goal or a game winning touchdown.

Statistically, the defense gave up basically the same number of yards on the same number of plays as the 2015 defense did against Clemson.  However, the 2016 defense gave up 14 more points; including the game winning touchdown with 2 minutes left after the offense scored the go ahead touchdown.

How will this heartbreaking loss affect the team going forward? How healthy will the team be physically?  The bigger question may be, how well will the team bounce back emotionally?

What FSU Must Do To Upset Clemson

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc & Nolebra Kai preview Saturday’s showdown against Clemson.

102416_renegadereport

It was supposed to be the ACC game of the year and a potential top 5 showdown under the lights at Doak Campbell stadium. Instead, FSU enters the game with 2 losses and a defense that has struggled with every mobile quarterback they’ve faced this season. The secondary has given up way too many big plays whether they’re in man or zone. How will they stop Deshaun Watson and his talented set of receivers?

Jimbo Fisher’s offense has started slow in every D1 game they’ve played this season. Can the offensive line create enough holes for Dalvin cook to run through? Will the offensive line give Deondre Francois enough time work the intermediate and deep passing game? Can the receivers win enough 1-on-1 battles to force the Clemson defense to play honest?

Loafs And Lack Of Confidence Lead To Loss

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc & Nolebra recap Saturday’s loss to UNC and previews this week’s rivalry game against Miami.

The calendar turned to October and FSU is already out of contention for both a National and ACC title. Charles Kelly should not be the defensive coordinator in 2017 but we wonder aloud what other changes need to be made.

It’s hard to criticize Jimbo Fisher’s game plan when the offense scores 35 points and nearly 600 yards despite 3 missed field goals. However, we question Jimbo’s decision not to go for it on fourth down more often; especially with the defense playing so poorly.

Next up is Miami. Will FSU make it seven straight over the Hurricanes or is this the year Miami fans will finally have bragging rights again?

Are Championship Expectations Realistic?

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc. & Nolebra Kai discusses whether or not championship expectations for the 2016 Seminoles are realistic.

012416_RenegadeReport

From the moment the Rose Bowl loss to Oregon ended, FSU fans pointed to 2016 as the year the Noles would once again compete for a National Title.  With major questions at quarterback, offensive line, linebacker, kicker and punter what has to happen for this year’s team to live up to those lofty expectations?

Which incoming freshmen do we expect to come in and make a major contribution? Which underclassmen do we expect to crack the 2 deep contribute?

FSU Remains Undefeated After Victory Over Louisville

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc & Nolebra Kai recap the Noles’ 41-21 win over Louisville.

101815_RenegadeReport

After a slow first half, Everett Golson led the FSU offense to 35 2nd half points. He finished the day 26 – 38 for 372 yards, 3 TDs and 0 INTs. Dalvin Cook had 223 yards from scrimmage with 2 TDs. Kermit Whitfield had his best day as a receiver finishing with 9 receptions, 172 yards and a TD.

Defensively, Charles Kelly’s unit was able to tally 5 sacks and held dual threat QB Lamar Jackson to only 32 yards rushing. It wasn’t all good for the defense however. For the 2nd straight week they allowed too many 3rd down conversions and for the 2nd straight week Tyler Hunter was abused by opposing receivers after Trey Marshall was forced to leave the game early. We wonder aloud if it’s time to move Jalen Ramsey back to the Star position.

FSU Makes It 6 Straight Over Miami

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc & guest co-host Andrew from Warpath Radio recap the Noles 29-24 win over Miami.

101115_RenegadeReport

Led by Dalvin Cook’s 222 rushing yards and 3 total TDs, the FSU offense had its best and most balanced performance of the season. Everett Golson passed for 291 yards with 1TD and no interceptions. Despite the balance and success, the offense left plenty of points on the field that made the game closer than it should’ve been.

Defensively, Charles Kelly’s unit did a great job of shutting down the Hurricane’s rushing attack with the front 7 but Brad Kaaya did a great job of exploiting a glaring weakness in the Noles’ secondary that was created with Trey Marshall’s ejection for targeting. Similarly to 2014, the defense was able to overcome a bad statistical performance and come up with key stops when it mattered most in the game.

We also take a few minutes to enjoy the significance of winning 6 straight against your rival. What makes this especially sweet is Canes’ fans will argue that they either had the better team or should’ve won all 6 games.

Noles “Solid” In Win Vs. Texas State

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc & Nolebra Kai recap the Noles 59-16 victory over the Texas State Bobcats.

090715_RenegadeReport

Everett Golson made his FSU debut Saturday night and completed 19 of 25 passes for 302 yards,  4 touchdowns with 0 interceptions.  The passing attack was set up by a dominant running attack that was established early in the game.  FSU ran the ball on 23 of the first 32 offensive plays and tallied 266 total rushing yards.  Dalvin Cook led the way with 156 rushing yards on just 19 carries.  He also scored 2 touchdowns.

The defense was more physical and really hustled to the ball.  Despite only having 1 sack, the Noles were still able to get pressure on the QB and force him to get rid of the ball sooner than he wanted to.  The defensive line in pressure packages was: Josh Sweat, Giorgio Newberry, Demarcus Walker and Jacob Pugh.

Overall it was a bad night for the special teams.  Kermit Whitfield and Jalen Ramsey had good kickoff returns but those were offset by: 2 fumbled punt returns, a fake punt conversion allowed, 2 bad punts and 2 kickoffs that sailed out of bounds.

041915_RenegadeReport

Now that spring practice has concluded, we take a position-by-position look at the team and discuss our confidence level for each segment going into the season.

While injuries limited participation for several key players this spring, most of those players will be full participants in summer workouts and fall camp.

Despite his poor performance in the spring game, Jimbo Fisher says he’s still confident in Sean Maguire. We discuss whether or not we believe him.
