2016 Spring Game Recap

In this episode of The Renegade Report, Herc. & Nolebra Kai recap the 2016 spring game.

By splitting the roster using a team draft, FSU was able to play a competitive and entertaining spring game despite having 21 players out with injury.  Deondre Francois played well enough to cement himself as a legitimate contender to be the Noles’ starter on Labor Day.  However, we don’t believe he played well enough to be content or comfortable with his standing on the depth chart.  He will have to battle and beat Sean Maguire in the fall if we wants to start against Ole Miss.  Mailk Henry’s performance has Noles fans excited for the 2017 QB battle regardless of who wins the job in 2016.

Auden Tate, Travis Rudolph, Ryan Green, Jacques Patrick, Ryan Izzo, Marcus Lewis, Derwin James and Ro’Derrick Hoskins all played well in the game.

Looking at the big picture, it’s clear the 2016 team has the talent to compete for a National Title.  What remains to be seen is what kind of play will we get from the quarterback position and will this team have the hunger and killer instinct necessary to compete for a title.  We’re excited to have these questions answered and we’re excited about the potential of the 2016 team.

2016 Spring Practice – Week 2 Recap

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc & Nolebra Kai recap the Noles’ first scrimmage of the spring.

Although JJ Cosentino took first team reps during the portion of practice open to the media most of the week, all signs point to Deondre Francois being atop the quarterback depth chart.  Francois has won the team over with his maturity and work ethic.

The progress reports for Rick Leonard, Chris Casher and Ryan Green have been positive after their position changes this spring.  Leonard will battle for the starting right tackle spot.  Green’s speed and receiving ability has him in position to get quality reps.  Chris Casher is more natural catching the ball than we expected.  If he learns the playbook and nuances of the tight end position, his contribution won’t be limited to short-yardage blocking situations.

Defensively, most of the talk this week centered around the Derwin James at defensive end packages.  At cornerback, Tarvarus McFadden is currently the starter opposite Marquez White.  With White being sidelined with a broken bone in his hand, Marcus Lewis has been taking those starting reps.

2014 Spring Practice – Week 2 Recap

In this episode of The Renegade Report, Herc & Nolebra Kai recap week 2 of spring practice.

As expected, Jimbo Fisher wasn’t pleased with the first scrimmage of the spring. He cited physicality and consistency as the biggest areas that needed to improve.

One segment that better get more consistent are the wide receivers. With the departure of Kelvin Benjamin and Kenny Shaw, there’s an opportunity for players to earn Jimbo’s trust and work their way into the rotation. If they don’t take advantage of it, there’s a talented group of freshmen coming in who’ll gladly take those reps.

Injuries are beginning to mount for the team with the addition of Ryan Green and Reggie Northrup to a growing list of Seminoles who have missed practices this spring. Fortunately, none of these injuries are considered serious and everyone should be healthy by the summer.

2014 Spring Practice – Week 1 Recap

In this episode of The Renegade Report, Herc & Nolebra Kai recap the first week spring practice.

The first week of spring practice was uneventful and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.  When you’re the National Champions, nothing is more welcomed than a low key spring where Jimbo Fisher can refocus the team to make a run at another title.

With that being said, there are still some developments that need to be discussed:

  • Dalvin Cook is out for spring practice with a torn labrum
  • Karlos Williams has been limited in practice though Jimbo insists that he isn’t injured
  • Backup center Sterling Lovelady decided to give up football to focus on academics
  • Jalen Ramsey will be the primary nickel back replacing Lamarcus Joyner
  • Reggie Northrup and Marcus Eligwe appear to be battling for the starting linebacker spot next to Terrance Smith

2014 Spring Practice Preview – Offense

In this episode of The Renegade Report, Herc & Nolebra Kai preview the spring practice storylines for the 2014 offense.

As spring practice begins on March 19, FSU feels comfortable about the known commodities on offense:  Jameis Winston, Rashad Greene, Nick O’Leary, Cam Erving, Josue Matias, Tre Jackson and Bobby Hart.

The answers to the unknown will determine if the Seminoles have a chance to repeat as National Champions.

Those unknowns include:

  • Who will be the backup quarterback: Sean Maguire or John Franklin III?
  • How will the running back rotation shake out?
  • Which wide receivers will become reliable 2nd and 3rd options?
  • How will the 2014 offensive philosophy change from last season?
  • Is Austin Barron ready to be the full time center?

We also discuss Charles Kelly’s move to defensive coordinator, Bill Miller being hired as linebacker coach and the Mario Pender/Ira Denson situation.
