2017 Spring Practice Preview

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc & Nolebra Kai preview FSU’s 2017 Spring Practice.

Life without Dalvin Cook begins.  We expect a committee approach to replacing his productivity.  Although he’s true freshman, we expect Cam Akers to be Jacques Patrick’s primary backup to start the season.

Fans will delight in the fact that it is literally impossible for the offense to feature a “midget package” at wide receiver.  Jokes aside, the development of this unit will be the key to Deondre Francois’ development.

The offensive line will feature more size but does bigger equal better?

We also discuss Dameyune Craig’s return to FSU as an offensive analyst.

Noles Break Camp, Turn Attention To Ole Miss

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc. & Nolebra Kai recap the conclusion of fall camp.

FSU broke fall camp and began their game week prep for Ole Miss. Jimbo Fisher “officially” named Deondre Francois the starting quarterback although we’ve all known it for quite some time.

It appears that most of the position battles we envisioned going into fall camp have been decided by injuries and missed practice time. That’s not to say the outcomes would’ve been any different, but the intrigue was removed with the missed practice time.

Strength & Conditioning coach, Vic Viloria was arrested for DUI over the weekend. What’s the appropriate punishment… Suspension? Termination?

2016 Fall Camp – Week 1 Recap

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc. & Nolebra Kai recap the first week of fall camp.

With Sean Maguire sidelined 4-6 weeks, Deondre Francois is slated to be the starting QB on September 5th against Ole Miss. With no quality backups, will Jimbo adjust his gameplan to protect Francois more?

Nyqwan Murray was dominant in the open practice on Sunday but we both feel he won’t make a major contribution at wide receiver until 2017.

The combinations of Wilson Bell/Brock Ruble & Cole Minshew/Rick Leonard are battling to be the starting tandem on the right side of the offensive line. Each tandem has alternated days with the starting offense.

The incoming freshman class is impressive physically. Not including the kickers, we expect at least 2 of them to make an impact this season.

2016 Fall Camp Preview

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc & Nolebra Kai discuss the start of fall camp for the 2016 Seminoles.

The questions surrounding this team haven’t changed since the conclusion of spring practice. When fall camp begins on Tuesday, some of those question will begin to get answered.

How bad does Deondre Francois have to play for Sean Maguire to be the starting quarterback against Ole Miss on September 5th. How deep will the WR rotation be? With 9 offensive linemen having starting experience, could we see an in-game offensive line rotation?

Defensively, just how deep is the DL? How many game ready linebackers do we have going into fall camp? How will the secondary rotation and snap distribution settle out?

Noles Confident Heading Into Fall Camp

After a transition season in 2015, the season we’ve been waiting for is finally here and everyone.

It was an offseason full of headlines, but unlike the last few years, the headlines have been mostly positive. The ACC Network is finally a reality. The Seminoles will be featured on Showtime’s “A Season With”. Neutral site games against Boise State and West Virginia are on the horizon.

Magazines, pundits and “experts” all project FSU to be a top 5 team in upcoming preseason polls.

Is this the season FSU returns to the College Football Playoffs? Can FSU dethrone Clemson and regain ACC supremacy?

2016 Spring Game Recap

In this episode of The Renegade Report, Herc. & Nolebra Kai recap the 2016 spring game.

041016_RenegadeReport

By splitting the roster using a team draft, FSU was able to play a competitive and entertaining spring game despite having 21 players out with injury.  Deondre Francois played well enough to cement himself as a legitimate contender to be the Noles’ starter on Labor Day.  However, we don’t believe he played well enough to be content or comfortable with his standing on the depth chart.  He will have to battle and beat Sean Maguire in the fall if we wants to start against Ole Miss.  Mailk Henry’s performance has Noles fans excited for the 2017 QB battle regardless of who wins the job in 2016.

Auden Tate, Travis Rudolph, Ryan Green, Jacques Patrick, Ryan Izzo, Marcus Lewis, Derwin James and Ro’Derrick Hoskins all played well in the game.

Looking at the big picture, it’s clear the 2016 team has the talent to compete for a National Title.  What remains to be seen is what kind of play will we get from the quarterback position and will this team have the hunger and killer instinct necessary to compete for a title.  We’re excited to have these questions answered and we’re excited about the potential of the 2016 team.

2016 Spring Practice – Week 3 Recap

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc. & Nolebra Kai recap the 3rd week of the Noles’ 2016 spring practice.

040316_RenegadeReport

Offensively, Rick Leonard took first team reps at both right guard and right tackle. Deondre Francois continues to take first team reps at quarterback and Bobo Wilson returned to practice. Jacques Patrick was praised for running with toughness and finally using his size to get extra yards.

Defensively, Jimbo Fisher challenged Josh Sweat to play better. True freshman Josh Brown took first team reps at linebacker with Jacob Pugh missing some practices. Marcus Lewis took first team reps at cornerback with Marquez White out for the rest of the spring with a broken bone in his hand.

The week concluded with a scrimmage inside of Doak Campbell Stadium. Jimbo Fisher said the team needs to play with more consistency and toughness. We wonder aloud if he is holding this team to a realistic standard. Is he letting this team develop their own identity or is he trying to force an identity upon them?

2016 Spring Practice – Week 2 Recap

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc & Nolebra Kai recap the Noles’ first scrimmage of the spring.

032716_RenegadeReport

Although JJ Cosentino took first team reps during the portion of practice open to the media most of the week, all signs point to Deondre Francois being atop the quarterback depth chart.  Francois has won the team over with his maturity and work ethic.

The progress reports for Rick Leonard, Chris Casher and Ryan Green have been positive after their position changes this spring.  Leonard will battle for the starting right tackle spot.  Green’s speed and receiving ability has him in position to get quality reps.  Chris Casher is more natural catching the ball than we expected.  If he learns the playbook and nuances of the tight end position, his contribution won’t be limited to short-yardage blocking situations.

Defensively, most of the talk this week centered around the Derwin James at defensive end packages.  At cornerback, Tarvarus McFadden is currently the starter opposite Marquez White.  With White being sidelined with a broken bone in his hand, Marcus Lewis has been taking those starting reps.

SpringPracticePreview

Many fans, us included, think FSU will be National Title contenders in 2016. At the same time, those same fans acknowledge that in order for that to happen, several questions not only have to be answered but answered favorably if the Noles are going to have any shot at making the playoffs.

Talent, expectations and uncertainty make this the most exciting spring practice in recent memory. We break down each position group by discussing: what we know, what we don’t know, and what we think.
