In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc. & Nolebra Kai recap the 3rd week of the Noles’ 2016 spring practice.

040316_RenegadeReport

Offensively, Rick Leonard took first team reps at both right guard and right tackle. Deondre Francois continues to take first team reps at quarterback and Bobo Wilson returned to practice. Jacques Patrick was praised for running with toughness and finally using his size to get extra yards.

Defensively, Jimbo Fisher challenged Josh Sweat to play better. True freshman Josh Brown took first team reps at linebacker with Jacob Pugh missing some practices. Marcus Lewis took first team reps at cornerback with Marquez White out for the rest of the spring with a broken bone in his hand.

The week concluded with a scrimmage inside of Doak Campbell Stadium. Jimbo Fisher said the team needs to play with more consistency and toughness. We wonder aloud if he is holding this team to a realistic standard. Is he letting this team develop their own identity or is he trying to force an identity upon them?

Uninspired, Unimpressive, Unacceptable

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc & Nolebra Kai recap the Noles 24-16 victory over Wake Forest.

100415_RenegadeReport

It was an unimpressive and uninspired effort by FSU yesterday. Was it because of the weather? Was it because the slew in injuries early in the game? Was it because the team was looking ahead to their showdown against Miami next week? Regardless of the reason(s), what we saw yesterday is unacceptable.

Will injuries to Dalvin Cook and Mario Pender finally force Everett Golson to use his legs as a weapon? On the opposite end of the spectrum, is it time to bench Golson and see if Sean Maguire can spark the offense?

With the Miami Hurricanes coming to town we fully expect to see a much better effort Saturday night. The question is will it be good enough to win the game?

2015 Fall Camp – Week 2 Recap

In this episode of the Renegade Report Herc & Nolebra Kai recap an eventful week on and off the field for the Seminoles.

081615_RenegadeReport

On the field, FSU held their first scrimmage of fall camp.  As expected, Jimbo said there was good and bad on both sides of the ball.  Chris Casher and Lorenzo Featherson will both be sidelined after minor knee surgeries.  Featherson is expected back in 1-2 weeks.  Casher also has a sprained MCL so his recovery will take 3-4 weeks.

During the week, Jimbo hinted that we may see more 2 TE sets this season.  Just how much should we expect to see?

Is it time to reevaluate our expectations for DE Josh Sweat this season?

Off the field, a trial date for Dalvin Cook has been set.  Matthew Thomas has been ruled ineligible for the 2015 season and FSU released their plan to address / prevent off the field issues.

2015 Fall Camp – Week 1 Recap

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc & Nolebra Kai recap the first 4 days of fall camp.

080915_RenegadeReport

Starting with his opening press conference, Jimbo Fisher has repeatedly talked about how young, inexperienced but talented this team is. With that comes a lot of mistakes and the need to put a bigger emphasis on teaching.

Everett Golson is still viewed as the 3rd string quarterback but he has taken his share of reps with the starting offense. Based on the few minutes of video shot at practice, you can see that some wrinkles have been added to the offense that utilizes Golson’s running ability. On the offensive line, Derrick Kelly has been the 1st team right tackle and not Chad Mavety.

Defensively, we preview the OLB / DE position. Last year’s pass rush was subpar to put it mildly but Jimbo Fisher feels confident that will improve this season. The biggest question we have is how will Charles Kelly utilize all the options he has at those positions?

We also discuss whether or not FSU should start negative recruiting more based on recent comments by Shavar Manuel.

2015 Wide Receiver & Defensive Back Preview

In this episode of The Renegade Report, Herc & Nolebra Kai preview the wide receiver and defensive back positions for the 2015 season.

072615_RenegadeReport

The wide receiver position features plenty of size and speed but it also features plenty of inexperience. Travis Rudolph and Jesus “BoBo” Wilson enter fall camp as the starters but expect Ermon Lane and Ja’Vonn “Pigg” Harrison to see plenty of snaps.

What kind of impact can we expect from newcomers: George Campbell, Auden Tate and Da’Vante Phillips?

Will Travis Rudolph emerge as the leader of the receiver corps now that Rashad Greene is off to the NFL?

There is no question that Jalen Ramsey is the leader of the defensive backfield. How will his move back to cornerback affect the rest of the secondary

How long will the other veterans of the secondary be able to fend off their younger, more talented teammates?

We also discuss ACC Media Day, preseason depth chart, injury updates and the latest developments in the Dalvin Cook case.

Never In Doubt But Never Easy

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc & Nolebra Kai recaps FSU’s 38-20 victory over Syracuse.

101214_RenegadeReport

Jameis Winston was sharp yesterday, going 30-36 317 yards and 3 TDs. Rashad Greene and Nick O’Leary both had record setting days catching the ball. Dalvin Cook had his first career 100 yard rushing game.

Defensively, Charles Kelly’s unit is still giving up too many yards and too many 3rd down conversions. Even though they came up with 3 interceptions, there are still some fundamental and discipline issues that need to be fixed and fixed soon.

Off the field, the Jameis Winston saga continues as several media outlets released stories on Friday night. The most damning was the New York Times story that accuses FSU and the Tallahassee Police Department of favorable treatment for FSU football players.

Despite it all, FSU is still undefeated and still control their own destiny to the College Football Playoffs regardless of their now #2 ranking.

Noles Dominate Demon Deacons

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc & Nolebra Kai recap the Noles 43-3 victory over Wake Forest.

100514_RenegadeReport

Even with a 40 point win, FSU has yet to put together a complete game this season. Turnovers on the first 2 drives and erratic play by Jameis Winston prevented the offense from finding any kind of rhythm.

Defensively, the Noles dominated one of the worst offenses in the FBS. Nevertheless, there was plenty to take away from the game. Lorenzo Featherson’s emergence has allowed Charles Kelly to feel comfortable playing Mario Edwards, Jr. inside next to Eddie Goldman. Markus Eligwe’s return provides depth at both linebacker and rush end.

Injuries and missed time are beginning to add up for this team: Austin Barron is out indefinitely with a broken hand and Rashad Greene was forced to leave the game early with a concussion.

Despite it all, FSU is still undefeated and still control their own destiny to the College Football Playoff.

Concerns Mount As Noles Remain Undefeated

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc & Nolebra Kai recap the Noles 56-41 victory over NCState.

092814_RenegadeReport

FSU is the ultimate glass half full / glass half empty team right now. On one hand, the defense gave up 41 points and 520 yards of offense to the Wolfpack. On the other hand, FSU outscored NCState 49-17 after the first quarter.

On one hand, Jameis Winston threw for 365 yards and 4 touchdowns. On the other hand, Jameis Winston threw 2 interceptions and lost a fumble.

On one hand, Rashad Greene caught 11 passes for 125 yards and a touchdown. On the other hand, Rashad Greene muffed a punt that led to a Wolfpack touchdown 2 plays later.

On one hand, the Seminoles aren’t playing championship football and do not look like the #1 team in the country. On the other hand, only 4 games have been played and the most glaring mistakes are definitely fixable.
