5 Disappointing Days Of FSU Football

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc. & Nolebra Kai recap the Noles 36-26 victory over Samford and give our late thoughts on FSU’s Labor Day loss to Virginia Tech.

Defensive Coordinator Harlon Barnett said the most improvement happens between game 1 and game 2. If that’s the case, FSU fans better brace for a long, frustrating and disappointing season. Monday night the offense scored 3 points in 4 red zone opportunities. Saturday night, the defense allowed Samford to throw for 475 yards.

Needless to say, it was a disappointing 5 days of Noles’ Football but at the same time, it’s way too early to make any declarations about Willie Taggart’s coaching ability or his future success at FSU.

2018 Season Preview & Predictions

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc & Nolebra Kai preview FSU’s 2018 season.

On Saturday, the team celebrated the end of fall camp and as expected, on Monday Deondre Francois was named the Seminoles’ starting QB against Virginia Tech. Now that it’s official, we preview the Labor Day matchup against the Hokies.

Balancing what we’ve seen from certain players with introducing a new offense and defense makes previewing the season tough but exciting. How much easier does the schedule get with the depth we have at running back and in the secondary? How much tougher does the schedule get with the lack of depth on the offensive line or inconsistent (at best) play from the linebackers? How many explosive plays can we expect from the passing game? Can this Willie Taggart led offense reverse the trend of being one of the more heavily penalized units?

Doing our best to answer those questions ultimately leads us to giving our game by game and overall record predictions for the 2018 season.

2018 Training Camp – Week 2 Review

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc & Nolebra Kai recap the 2nd week of FSU’s 2018 Training Camp.

After 4 days of practice at IMG Academy, week 2 concluded with a situational scrimmage that saw the offense finally get the best of the defense.

As the team prepares to turn their focus to Virginia Tech, there’s still no announcement on who will be the starting QB. Willie Taggart and Walt Bell both insist that the battle is still close and no one has done enough yet to seize the job.

Media Day provided some interesting quotes from both players and coaches.

We also give our thoughts on Willie Taggart being named as one of the most overrated coaches in college football by a group of anonymous coaches.

2018 Training Camp – Week 1 Review

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc. & Nolebra Kai recap the first week of FSU’s 2018 Training Camp.

The competition is far from over, but all indications are Deondre Francois had the best week of all the quarterbacks.

Barring injury, it’s safe to assume that the starting offensive line against Virginia Tech will be: Jauan Williams, Derrick Kelly, Alec Eberle, Cole Minshew and Landon Dickerson.

  • Which young receivers have the best chance of stealing reps from a veteran?
  • Will Josh Kaindoh remain a backup to Brian Burns or will he battle Janarius Robinson for the other starting defensive end spot?
  • Who starts at linebacker next to Dontavious Jackson?
  • Can DeCalon Brooks hold on to his starting job with Jaiden Woodbey trying to unseat him?
  • Who starts at safety next to Stanford Samuels III?
  • What’s going on with Hamsah Nasirildeen?

We also give our thoughts on the team practicing at IMG Academy for a week.

Defense Continues To Dominate As Spring Game Approaches

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc & Nolebra Kai recap the second scrimmage and give our overall impression of spring practice thus far.

It should come as no surprise that the defense got the better of the offense in both scrimmages. The offense is undergoing a complete makeover in terms of philosophy, tempo, and complexity while elements of Harlon Barnett’s cover 4 defense were present under Charles Kelly.  Not to mention, the majority of injuries to key players are on the offensive side of the ball.

Spring practice concludes with the Garnet & Gold game on Saturday and the teams have now been drafted.  We discuss the rosters and our expectations for the Spring Game.

We also discuss Bobby Bowden’s return to practice and what that signifies for the program.
