2018 Training Camp – Week 1 Review

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc. & Nolebra Kai recap the first week of FSU’s 2018 Training Camp.

The competition is far from over, but all indications are Deondre Francois had the best week of all the quarterbacks.

Barring injury, it’s safe to assume that the starting offensive line against Virginia Tech will be: Jauan Williams, Derrick Kelly, Alec Eberle, Cole Minshew and Landon Dickerson.

  • Which young receivers have the best chance of stealing reps from a veteran?
  • Will Josh Kaindoh remain a backup to Brian Burns or will he battle Janarius Robinson for the other starting defensive end spot?
  • Who starts at linebacker next to Dontavious Jackson?
  • Can DeCalon Brooks hold on to his starting job with Jaiden Woodbey trying to unseat him?
  • Who starts at safety next to Stanford Samuels III?
  • What’s going on with Hamsah Nasirildeen?

We also give our thoughts on the team practicing at IMG Academy for a week.

Defense Continues To Dominate As Spring Game Approaches

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc & Nolebra Kai recap the second scrimmage and give our overall impression of spring practice thus far.

It should come as no surprise that the defense got the better of the offense in both scrimmages. The offense is undergoing a complete makeover in terms of philosophy, tempo, and complexity while elements of Harlon Barnett’s cover 4 defense were present under Charles Kelly.  Not to mention, the majority of injuries to key players are on the offensive side of the ball.

Spring practice concludes with the Garnet & Gold game on Saturday and the teams have now been drafted.  We discuss the rosters and our expectations for the Spring Game.

We also discuss Bobby Bowden’s return to practice and what that signifies for the program.

Putting The Clemson Loss In Perspective

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc & Nolebra Kai recap the Noles 37-34 loss to Clemson.

Dalvin Cook scored 4 touchdowns, Deondre Francois’ toughness was once again on display and Nyqwan Murray had a coming out party but when it mattered most the offensive line cracked under pressure and prevented the offense from scoring a game tying field goal or a game winning touchdown.

Statistically, the defense gave up basically the same number of yards on the same number of plays as the 2015 defense did against Clemson.  However, the 2016 defense gave up 14 more points; including the game winning touchdown with 2 minutes left after the offense scored the go ahead touchdown.

How will this heartbreaking loss affect the team going forward? How healthy will the team be physically?  The bigger question may be, how well will the team bounce back emotionally?
