What FSU Must Do To Upset Clemson

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc & Nolebra Kai preview Saturday’s showdown against Clemson.

It was supposed to be the ACC game of the year and a potential top 5 showdown under the lights at Doak Campbell stadium. Instead, FSU enters the game with 2 losses and a defense that has struggled with every mobile quarterback they’ve faced this season. The secondary has given up way too many big plays whether they’re in man or zone. How will they stop Deshaun Watson and his talented set of receivers?

Jimbo Fisher’s offense has started slow in every D1 game they’ve played this season. Can the offensive line create enough holes for Dalvin cook to run through? Will the offensive line give Deondre Francois enough time work the intermediate and deep passing game? Can the receivers win enough 1-on-1 battles to force the Clemson defense to play honest?

Noles Make It 7 Straight Against Miami

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc & Nolebra Kai recap the Noles dramatic 20-19 victory over the Hurricanes.

Deondre Francois’ toughness was on full display once again as he battled back from injury and big hits to lead FSU to their 7th straight win over Miami. Kermit Whitfield and Bobo Wilson each had 7 catches. 7 different players caught passes from Francois on the day. Dalvin Cook continued his dominance of Miami with 209 total yards and a touchdown.

Earlier in the week, the defensive players pledged to play harder and stop loafing. That effort combined with a simplified scheme led to a much better performance. Charles Kelly’s unit held Miami to 276 total yards. Mark Walton and Joe Yearby combined for 78 yards on 24 carries.

FSU returns home to play Wake Forest before a much needed bye week leading into the Clemson game.

FSU Makes It 6 Straight Over Miami

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc & guest co-host Andrew from Warpath Radio recap the Noles 29-24 win over Miami.

101115_RenegadeReport

Led by Dalvin Cook’s 222 rushing yards and 3 total TDs, the FSU offense had its best and most balanced performance of the season. Everett Golson passed for 291 yards with 1TD and no interceptions. Despite the balance and success, the offense left plenty of points on the field that made the game closer than it should’ve been.

Defensively, Charles Kelly’s unit did a great job of shutting down the Hurricane’s rushing attack with the front 7 but Brad Kaaya did a great job of exploiting a glaring weakness in the Noles’ secondary that was created with Trey Marshall’s ejection for targeting. Similarly to 2014, the defense was able to overcome a bad statistical performance and come up with key stops when it mattered most in the game.

We also take a few minutes to enjoy the significance of winning 6 straight against your rival. What makes this especially sweet is Canes’ fans will argue that they either had the better team or should’ve won all 6 games.

Noles Defense Dominates Boston College

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc. & Nolebra Kai recap the Noles 14-0 victory over Boston College.

092015_RenegadeReport

FSU’s defense controlled the game from start to finish. Charles Kelly’s unit held the Eagles to 195 total yards and never allowed them to get into scoring range. Jalen Ramsey’s 36 yard scoop and score put an exclamation point on a dominant performance.

After the first drive of the game, FSU’s offense was offensive. There was no rhythm, there was no consistency and there were no more points scored. Dalvin Cook was held to 54 yards rushing on 15 carries.

The most shocking stat of the game was Cason Beatty averaging 52.3 yards on 7 punts.

With ¼ of the season completed and no game this week, we discuss what we know and what we think we know about the 2015 Seminoles’ football team.

Dalvin Cook Carries Noles To Victory Over USF

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc & Nolebra Kai recap the Noles 34-14 victory over USF.

091315_RenegadeReport

Despite Dalvin Cook running for 266 yards and 3TDs, it was still a bad day for Everett Golson and the FSU offense.  The offensive line struggled in pass protection and were inconsistent in the running game.  The passing attack was plagued with missed reads, bad throws and dropped passes.  To their credit, they were able to overcome several mistakes and score 27 points in the 2nd half.

Overall, the Noles defense continues to impress with ability to pressure and contain mobile quarterbacks but there were still a few instances where their pursuit of the QB caused them to lose sight of eligible receivers and become vulnerable to big plays.

Friday night, FSU faces their toughest challenge so far this season when they go on the road for the first time to face Boston College.

2015 Wide Receiver & Defensive Back Preview

In this episode of The Renegade Report, Herc & Nolebra Kai preview the wide receiver and defensive back positions for the 2015 season.

072615_RenegadeReport

The wide receiver position features plenty of size and speed but it also features plenty of inexperience. Travis Rudolph and Jesus “BoBo” Wilson enter fall camp as the starters but expect Ermon Lane and Ja’Vonn “Pigg” Harrison to see plenty of snaps.

What kind of impact can we expect from newcomers: George Campbell, Auden Tate and Da’Vante Phillips?

Will Travis Rudolph emerge as the leader of the receiver corps now that Rashad Greene is off to the NFL?

There is no question that Jalen Ramsey is the leader of the defensive backfield. How will his move back to cornerback affect the rest of the secondary

How long will the other veterans of the secondary be able to fend off their younger, more talented teammates?

We also discuss ACC Media Day, preseason depth chart, injury updates and the latest developments in the Dalvin Cook case.

2015 Spring Practice – Week 2 Recap

In this episode of The Renegade Report, Herc & special guest co-host Travis aka FSUBone recap week 2 of FSU’s spring practice.

032915_RenegadeReport

A stomach virus spread among the team that caused 2 practices to be cancelled and rescheduled. Several players have missed practice time due to the virus.  Jimbo Fisher also revealed that Matthew Thomas and Chris Casher will both miss spring practice due to shoulder injuries.  WR Isiah Jones will transfer to JUCO after missing the entire 2014 season for being declared academically ineligible.

Last week, Nolebra Kai made a case for JJ Cosentino to be the starting QB in 2015. This week practice video was released that surprisingly revealed JJ was the 3rd string QB not 2nd string as most fans expected.

We also take a closer look at the 2015 defense and FSUBone believes Charles Kelly should’ve been fired after the 2014 season and any improvement in 2015 will be minimal at best.

29-1: Looking Back, Looking Forward

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc. & Nolebra Kai recap FSU’s 59-20 loss to Oregon in the College Football Playoffs.

010415_RenegadeReport

Missed opportunities early followed by a plethora of turnovers in the 3rd quarter ultimately led to the Noles 29 game winning streak coming to an abrupt end. What did we learn? What changes need to be made?

We also look back at the 29 game winning streak starting with the state of the program following a home loss to Florida and an uninspiring Orange Bowl victory over Northern Illinois to where it stands now: poised to be in the National Title hunt for the foreseeable future.

Finally, we talk about the future of the program with the arrival of several early-enrollee recruits who make up “Tribe15”; FSU’s talented 2015 recruiting class.

FSU vs. Oregon Preview

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc. & Nolebra Kai preview FSU’s Rose Bowl matchup against Oregon in the semifinals of the inaugural College Football Playoff.

122814_RenegadeReport

The game is being billed as battle of Heisman Trophy winners: Jameis Winston vs. Marcus Mariota. However, a pair of freshmen running backs will be a major factor in determining the winner of the game. For FSU, Dalvin Cook’s emergence has provided the Seminoles with a balanced attack that they lacked early in the season. Royce Freeman is Oregon’s feature back and has rushed for over 1,200 yards this season.

Defensively, both teams face major challenges. How will FSU deal with the Duck’s tempo? How will Oregon account for the loss of their best defender, Ifo Ekpre-Olomu.

Off the field we also discuss Jimbo Fisher’s new 8 year contract and the results of Jameis Winston’s code of conduct hearing.
