In this episode of The Renegade Report, Herc & Nolebra Kai preview Spring Practice 2016.

SpringPracticePreview

Many fans, us included, think FSU will be National Title contenders in 2016. At the same time, those same fans acknowledge that in order for that to happen, several questions not only have to be answered but answered favorably if the Noles are going to have any shot at making the playoffs.

Talent, expectations and uncertainty make this the most exciting spring practice in recent memory. We break down each position group by discussing: what we know, what we don’t know, and what we think.

FSU Makes It 6 Straight Over Miami

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc & guest co-host Andrew from Warpath Radio recap the Noles 29-24 win over Miami.

101115_RenegadeReport

Led by Dalvin Cook’s 222 rushing yards and 3 total TDs, the FSU offense had its best and most balanced performance of the season. Everett Golson passed for 291 yards with 1TD and no interceptions. Despite the balance and success, the offense left plenty of points on the field that made the game closer than it should’ve been.

Defensively, Charles Kelly’s unit did a great job of shutting down the Hurricane’s rushing attack with the front 7 but Brad Kaaya did a great job of exploiting a glaring weakness in the Noles’ secondary that was created with Trey Marshall’s ejection for targeting. Similarly to 2014, the defense was able to overcome a bad statistical performance and come up with key stops when it mattered most in the game.

We also take a few minutes to enjoy the significance of winning 6 straight against your rival. What makes this especially sweet is Canes’ fans will argue that they either had the better team or should’ve won all 6 games.

Uninspired, Unimpressive, Unacceptable

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc & Nolebra Kai recap the Noles 24-16 victory over Wake Forest.

100415_RenegadeReport

It was an unimpressive and uninspired effort by FSU yesterday. Was it because of the weather? Was it because the slew in injuries early in the game? Was it because the team was looking ahead to their showdown against Miami next week? Regardless of the reason(s), what we saw yesterday is unacceptable.

Will injuries to Dalvin Cook and Mario Pender finally force Everett Golson to use his legs as a weapon? On the opposite end of the spectrum, is it time to bench Golson and see if Sean Maguire can spark the offense?

With the Miami Hurricanes coming to town we fully expect to see a much better effort Saturday night. The question is will it be good enough to win the game?

Dalvin Cook Found Not Guilty

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc & Nolebra Kai discuss the Dalvin Cook trial and verdict.

082415_RenegadeReport

After 8 hours of testimony it only took 24 minutes for the jury to come back with a unanimous not guilty verdict.  With the not guilty verdict, FSU immediately lifted his suspension and Cook is expected to practice with the team on Tuesday.

We also follow Jimbo Fisher down the yellow brick road and attempt to answer the following questions:

  • Who will start at Center, Right Guard and Right Tackle?
  • Just how bad have the receivers been playing?
  • When will Jimbo announce the starting QB?

2015 Fall Camp – Week 2 Recap

In this episode of the Renegade Report Herc & Nolebra Kai recap an eventful week on and off the field for the Seminoles.

081615_RenegadeReport

On the field, FSU held their first scrimmage of fall camp.  As expected, Jimbo said there was good and bad on both sides of the ball.  Chris Casher and Lorenzo Featherson will both be sidelined after minor knee surgeries.  Featherson is expected back in 1-2 weeks.  Casher also has a sprained MCL so his recovery will take 3-4 weeks.

During the week, Jimbo hinted that we may see more 2 TE sets this season.  Just how much should we expect to see?

Is it time to reevaluate our expectations for DE Josh Sweat this season?

Off the field, a trial date for Dalvin Cook has been set.  Matthew Thomas has been ruled ineligible for the 2015 season and FSU released their plan to address / prevent off the field issues.

2015 Fall Camp – Week 1 Recap

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc & Nolebra Kai recap the first 4 days of fall camp.

080915_RenegadeReport

Starting with his opening press conference, Jimbo Fisher has repeatedly talked about how young, inexperienced but talented this team is. With that comes a lot of mistakes and the need to put a bigger emphasis on teaching.

Everett Golson is still viewed as the 3rd string quarterback but he has taken his share of reps with the starting offense. Based on the few minutes of video shot at practice, you can see that some wrinkles have been added to the offense that utilizes Golson’s running ability. On the offensive line, Derrick Kelly has been the 1st team right tackle and not Chad Mavety.

Defensively, we preview the OLB / DE position. Last year’s pass rush was subpar to put it mildly but Jimbo Fisher feels confident that will improve this season. The biggest question we have is how will Charles Kelly utilize all the options he has at those positions?

We also discuss whether or not FSU should start negative recruiting more based on recent comments by Shavar Manuel.

2015 Offensive Line & Defensive Tackle Preview

In this episode of the Renegade Report Herc & Nolebra Kai preview the offensive line and defensive tackle positions for the 2015 season.

080215_RenegadeReport

Despite losing 4 starters to the NFL, Jimbo Fisher is confident in the 2015 offensive line. Left tackle Roderick Johnson anchors a line that is inexperienced but athletic. Run blocking is the strength of the unit right now but their ability to develop chemistry in pass protection will dictate the overall success of the offense.

The defensive tackle position doesn’t feature a superstar like in year’s past. Despite that, there is plenty of talent and depth at the position. Nile Lawrence-Stample and Derrick Nnadi are the starters going into fall camp. Derrick Mitchell, Keith Bryant, Demarcus Christmas and Arthur Williams will compete for playing time. This six-man rotation that averages 6’2 304lbs should be a problem for the interior of opposing offensive lines.

We also discuss recruiting, Jimbo’s appearance on the ESPN “Carwash” and FSU’s ranking in the Coach’s Poll.

The Summer Of Discontent

In this episode of the Renegade Report, Herc and Nolebra Kai recap the Noles tumultuous summer.

071915_RenegadeReport

After a relatively quiet spring, the FSU Football program once again found themselves in the national headlines after De’Andre Johnson and Dalvin Cook were each charged with misdemeanor battery after altercations with females.  Johnson was immediately suspended and ultimately dismissed from the program after video was released of him punching a female.  There is no video of the Cook incident and the facts of the case have many questioning Willie Meggs’ true motive for charging Dalvin Cook.

Rumors of Jimbo and Candi Fisher’s separation were swirling for weeks before they ultimately released a joint statement on June 19th.

Despite the negative headlines the past few weeks, not all the news surrounding the FSU Football program this summer was negative.

Everett Golson transferring to FSU eased some of the concerns for the season following Sean Maguire’s lackluster spring game.

FSU vs. Alabama in Atlanta for the 2017 Kickoff Classic was confirmed and both fanbases are very excited.
